Virginia Barreiro, Director of Global Operations
Virginia joined the New Ventures team in 1999 and since then has been working with sustainable enterprise development in India, Latin America, China, Brazil and Indonesia. Prior to joining WRI, Virginia worked with the Center for US-Mexican Studies and the Institute of the Americas in La Jolla, CA. She holds a M.A. in Latin American Studies from George Washington University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California in San Diego.

Ella Delio, Associate
Ella joined New Ventures in March, 2007, where she coordinates activities in India and Indonesia.  She has 8 years of relevant experience in enterprise and private sector development. Originally from the Philippines, Ella worked for Procter and Gamble and ran or helped run two businesses. When she came to the U.S., Ella obtained her MBA degree from the Harvard Business School and Masters in Public Administration degree from the Kennedy School of Government. During this time, she had internships at the Philippine Department of Trade & Industry and Booz Allen Hamilton. After graduate school, she worked with the Center for Women and Enterprise in Boston where she led the Springboard New England, a program which aimed to increase equity investments in high-growth, women-led businesses in the East Coast.

Ray Cheung, Associate
Ray has over 10 years of experience in Chinese environmental and business issues. While based in China, he was a writer for the Economist Intelligence Unit’s “Business China” report, in which he probed investment opportunities in China’s environmental industries. He was also a China reporter for Hong Kong’s “South China Morning Post” and a program manager at the University of Hong Kong’s Journalism and Media Studies Centre. Before journalism, Ray worked with the Chinese environmental organization Global Village of Beijing. Ray has a BS in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California at Berkeley and a MBA from Georgetown University. He is responsible for coordinating New Ventures activities in China.

Aram Kang, Research Analyst
Aram manages New Ventures Mentoring, a program that connects business school students and New Ventures entrepreneurs. She is also a liaison for the New Ventures China program. Before joining WRI, she received her Masters in Environmental Management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, with a concentration in business and environment. Prior to that, Aram lived in Seoul, Korea for 12 years and received a BA in International Trade at Kyung Hee University.

Kelly McCarthy, Communications Manager + Impact Analyst
Kelly manages the New Ventures media outreach activities and website as well as all other strategic communications. Her expertise lies in designing strategic, innovative, and high-impact business solutions. Her current work focuses on developing impact metrics for the enterprise development community where she hopes to demonstrate the link between poverty alleviation and environmental enterprise. She has diverse experience with several different sectors and from a variety of enterprise perspectives including design-for-impact, consultancy, non-profit, think-tank, corporate, and as a social entrepreneur. Kelly moved to the DC area from her home state of Wisconsin where she co-founded an organic living retail store, Good Harvest Market, that provides the local community with access to "sustainable lifestyle" items and classes while ensuring that all the products are sourced from other SMEs. Prior to her entrepreneurial endeavors, she worked for a mid-sized electric company to help design environmental impact metrics for the utility sector and embark on their first sustainability strategy. She also worked with Sustainability, Inc. where she focused on value-maximization for Fortune 500 companies. She holds a degree in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Design from University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Francisco Noguera, Research Analyst
Francisco manages New Ventures media outreach activities, is a Managing Editor for NextBillion.net, and is a liaison for New Ventures activities in Latin America.  After receiving a degree in industrial engineering from Universidad de los Andes and working for an investment banking firm, he joined StratCo Consultores in Bogotá, where he worked for almost four years in management and strategy consulting.  Francisco´s interest in the intersection between business and development led him to start and manage a microfinance program in Bogotá and engage in various socially minded projects while working for StratCo.

Saurabh Lall, Research Assistant / Program Coordinator
Saurabh Lall supports the Accelerating Clean Energy Markets, New Ventures India and New Ventures Indonesia projects at WRI. His research focuses on innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable small and medium enterprises.  Prior to joining WRI, he has worked with the National Council for Public Private Partnerships and the George Washington Center for the Study of Globalization. His research interests include renewable energy, technology for development and public private partnerships. Originally from Mumbai, Saurabh has a Master of Public Policy degree from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Mumbai.

Chandan Singh, Research Analyst
Chandan works closely with the New Ventures India team.  His current research focuses on the market viability of Environmental Service Companies (ESCOs) in India.
