Beijing Shengchang Bioenergy: Making a difference

• BSB manufactures pellets made of biomass waste such as straw and peanut shell. These serve as replacements for traditional fuels like coal and oil.

• The company also develops high efficiency biomass cooking stoves aimed at rural Chinese communities. Their low cost and low energy consumption allow communities to avoid the use of contaminating fuels like kerosene.

Environmental and social impacts

• BSB has sold over 40,000 tons of biomass-based pelletized fuel, achieving CO2 emissions reductions estimated at 64,000 tons.

• The company has sold and installed over 30,000 biomass cooking stoves in rural communities, preventing pollution and respiratory illnesses caused by the use of kerosene or coal. The use of agricultural waste creates an additional income source for local farming communities.

• BSB works closely with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, and has achieved normative and regulatory advances to promote more alternative energy systems in the country.
