Alianza Natural is an alliance among several corporations. It integrates the collection and transformation of products derived from Andean biodiversity, involving conservation activities and under triple bottom line criteria.

Alianza: Making a difference

  • Alianza Natural is Colombia’s leading natural product association, comprised of eight Colombian enterprises that develop and commercialize ingredients and products emphasizing Andean-Amazon biodiversity, social and economic sustainability, fair trade and respect for the rights of indigenous and farming communities.

  • Alianza Natural operates in the natural cosmetics market and focuses on the entire value chain of natural products, from the sustainable cultivation, collection, and extraction of native Colombian ingredients to the production and marketing of final products.

Environmental and social impacts:

  • Alianza develops protocols for their practices based on the principles and criteria of the Convention of Biodviersity. They are working with the Humboldt Institute, Colciencias, the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota and the Ministry of Agriculture.

  • When ingredients are derived from farming processes, Alianza employs organic practices; when ingredients are derived from the local biodiverse areas, products are selected using two criteria: 1) species that are in high abundance and that can be easily cultivated; and 2) species that have a short life cycle, that can be obtained in large quantities and under organic farming practices (in accordance with globally recognized standards such as USDA and IFOAM.)

  • Alianza works through organized communities to negotiate fair trade practices and compensation. Alianza creates jobs, works with local farmers, and offers a range of benefits, from training to healthcare and education.
