New Ventures Indonesia
New Ventures Indonesia (NVI) was established in 2005 in collaboration with Yayasan Bina Usaha Lingkungan (YBUL), a local NGO that seeks to promote the use of and access to renewable energy for low-income communities in Indonesia. NVI was established with the goal of supporting the development of environmentally sustainable and socially responsible small and medium enterprises in Indonesia.
In early 2006, NVI conducted its first Call for Business Plan with the goal to identify and select promising environmentally sustainable and socially responsible small and medium companies. The process was able to identify ten companies which subsequently received business mentoring to develop and refine their business plans and strategies. In late 2006, NVI held its first Investor Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia, in which the ten selected environmentally sustainable and socially responsible small and medium companies were given the opportunity to showcase their business to an audience of investors and potential business partners.
In 2007, NVI identified and selected seven companies to be showcased during that year’s Investor Forum, which was also held in Jakarta. Due to lack of high quality applications, NVI did not hold an Investor Forum event in 2008. In 2009, NVI was able to identify and select five dynamic and promising companies to be showcased at that year’s Investor Forum, which unlike the previous events was held in Semarang, Central Java.
Services and Events
Since its inception in 2005, New Ventures Indonesia has established an IT Training Facility (in collaboration with a local university), held three Investor Forums, conducted 25 outreach and business seminars around Indonesia attended by more than 750 entrepreneurs, screened 269 business applications and selected 22 entrepreneurs. NVI has also been able to help seven enterprises secure loans from local financial institutions. In addition, NVI has developed a network of local partners (e.g. universities, business incubators, NGOs) that help it identify outstanding companies that create solutions to environmental and social challenges.
